OUR STORY
A captivating survey...
Fredrick Musa GALO is the founder and group Team Leader of Spring of Hope, a Community Based Organization. He is an accountant by profession and has passion for sales and community mobilization. He has made notable contributions to the locals in the region by empowering the less fortunate youths, and single mothers in distress, organizing them to make a living by addressing their socio-economic challenges and promoting self-reliance.
His interactions with various communities within the region have given him useful insights into the challenges most of these households face daily, especially in houses where there are children (born) with disabilities.
Apart from the challenges he observed in other families, Spring of Hope’s founder also has a half-sister, and a cousin who live with physical challenges.
The founder’s desire to help people with disabilities led him to run a survey to understand the extend of the needs of disabled people within two wards, Butali/Chegulo-, and Manda Shivanga wards of Kakamega North Subcounty, Kakamega County in Western part of Kenya.
The findings were so heart breaking. He discovered that 60 out of the 100 homesteads visited had conditions of serious concern, both from the perspective of the children and of the caregivers.
This inspired our founder and CEO to empower the caregivers of these children through socio-economic entrepreneurship since he did not have funds to directly support the families. He made it possible for them to serve as sales agents of solar energy solutions, thus making them earn commissions to help meet their financial needs.
In 2015, the founder was invited to benchmark at Triumphant Heart Organization, in Jinja, Uganda, where Triumphant Heart Organization’s founder, Israel Nasasira Karahukayo, and his wife, Teresha Clark Karahukayo, were highly instrumental in guiding and encouraging him to take up the challenge of empowering children with disabilities.
As a result, Spring of Hope was officially registered by the Ministry of Labour, Social Securities and Services as a Community Based Organization, in June 2016.
